Hurricane Update

Dear Friends,

Hurricane season has officially started this month. It is time to prepare, if you haven’t already!

Taking time to prepare early will save you stress and time. Here are a few tips to remember when it comes to staying safe during hurricane season:

Planning for an Emergency: Ensure your family knows where supplies are around the household, as well as where your family will meet in case you are evacuated or separated. Keep in mind that CDC guidance on COVID-19 may affect your hurricane planning. Complete a family communication plan.

Get your Supplies Now: This is the last weekend to take advantage of the Sales Tax Holiday which allows certain essential items to be tax-exempt. Find out more information about the Sales Tax Holiday and the items that qualify. Make sure to stock up on enough food, water, and other supplies for every member of your family to last at least 72 hours. This includes supplies for pets, seniors, and prescription medications.

Landscaping and Debris: During high-winds, debris can become airborne and cause injury to people and damage to property. Please don’t start any new projects and complete your yard work and tree-trimming projects well before any storm.

Insurance Coverage: Review your policy. Ensure you are adequately covered and understand exclusions. Contact your agent with any questions.

Special Needs Shelters: You must register with Palm Beach County in advance. Please call (561) 712-6400 (TTY 561-712-6342).

Make sure to stay up-to-date on weather conditions and forecasts for your area. The sooner you are aware of inclement weather, the more time you will have to prepare. For more resources regarding hurricane readiness, visit Palm Beach County’s Public Safety – Emergency Management page

Sincerely,

Michelle Oyola McGovern
Candidate for Palm Beach County Commission, District 6

Happy Mother’s Day

Dear Friend,

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, mother-in-laws, step-moms, foster moms, mother figures, and role models on this special day.

Thank you for all you do to inspire, guide, nurture, and lead in your homes and in our community.

As a mother of two girls, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to balance everything going on in life, especially nowadays. I am so grateful for the loving support of my family and, in particular, my mother and mother-in-law who are always there to lend a helping hand.

Life’s stresses can sometimes be overwhelming, and this past year has been a real struggle for many of us. So, make sure you celebrate this special time with your loved ones, take a moment to say ‘thank you,’ and give a big hug to those in your life who you can’t live without.

Let’s make this Mother’s Day extra special for those we so lovingly call Mom!

Sincerely,

Michelle Oyola McGovern
Candidate for Palm Beach County Commission
